Why you Scots playin’ American music? January 14th, 2006

‘Country music…three chords and the truth’-Harlan Howard

The Scuffers understand that Country music has its roots in the musical styles brought over to the Appalachian mountains by the first European settlers. These songs were based upon the Anglo-Celtic folk ballads, which was basically a story telling tradition that allowed history to be recorded when few people were able to read and write.

Although the music and songs changed in content and personality as it grew in America, many of the old styles and subject matters are still prevalent in Country music today.

The Scuffers are dipping into the history of American music, as well as the deep musical heritage and story telling styles of our own great country and hopefully creating an exciting sound, which although not by any means new should still be as appealing as that of our musical hero’s and peers.

Keep Scuffin’.
